Lilies in the Garden of Tomorrow interprets the true story of the strength, resilience and tenacity of a woman bound by the constructs of her society amid personal and political crisis in the transition to Independence in India in the 1930s and 1940s. It is based on several volumes of personal diaries narrating events in South India written by my great grandmother-in-law Eliamma Matthen.
